Doctoral student appointed to strategic group for the American Society for Public Administration (2011-02-24)

Ph.D. student Kenna Walsh will serve on one of five new groups aimed at shaping future plans for the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA).

Walsh was selected to serve on ASPA's fifth Strategic Imperative Group (SIG 5), which examines how technology impacts the organization. One of the projects looks at developing an "App" for ASPA to allow members access on mobile devices.

ASPA President Erik Bergrud developed five groups to address different aspects of the organization.

Walsh has examined how social media affects government at multiple levels. A portion of her doctoral research explores how the use of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube can both recruit the Millennial Generation into public service and serve as a communication tool with the public.

ASPA remains the leading organization in the United States that addresses public sector issues. Practitioners and academics work together to evoke change in the administrative setting.

Walsh joins one other doctoral student and seven professors from various universities across the United States in SIG 5.
