Professor KC Morrison focuses on both Comparative Politics and American Politics, and specializes in Africa and Third World politics as well African American and Mississippi politics. He received his PhD and MA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Morrison also received a Certificate of African Studies from the University of Ghana in Africa, and holds a BA degree with Honors from Tougaloo College. Morrison has served as an Associate Professor of Afro-American Studies and Political Science and as Chairman of Afro-American Studies at Syracuse University in New York, and comes to MSU from the University of Missouri, where he was Vice Provost for Minority Affairs and Faculty Development, and most recently the Frederick Middlebush Professor of Political Science. Professor Morrison is the new head of our Political Science and Public Administration Department.
Professor Morrison has received numerous academic distinctions and honors, including a University of Missouri Faculty Alumni Award, a Diversity Ehancement Award, a Martin Luther King Community Award from Columbia, Missouri, and a Barbara Jordan Leadership Award from the Big Eight Conference, and is also a Foreign Affairs Scholar for the U.S. State Department. He is working on a book that is the product of a major grant from the Ford Foundation, where along with a professor at California State University and a team of African American and Afro-Brazilian scholars, they studied race and democracy in Brazil and the United States.
Professor Morrison maintains a national reputation in research. His published books include Black Political Mobilization, Leadership, Power, and Mass Behavior published by SUNY, African Americans and Political Participation, and Commitment: Fatherhood in Black America. Morrison is currently working on a biography of Mississippi Civil Rights leader Aaron Henry. He has written numerous scholarly articles, and published in such journals as Comparative Politics, Journal of Modern African Studies, Political Science Quarterly, and the National Political Science Review.
