Professor Minion K. C. Morrison focuses on both Comparative Politics/policy, and American Politics. He specializes in Africa and Third World politics, and comparative racial politics, including Mississippi politics. He received his PhD and MA degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; a Certificate of African Studies from the University of Ghana; and a BA degree-Honors from Tougaloo College. Morrison has served as an Associate Professor of Afro-American Studies and Political Science and as Chairman of Afro-American Studies at Syracuse University in New York. He came to MSU from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he was Vice Provost for Minority Affairs and Faculty Development, and Frederick Middlebush Professor of Political Science. Professor Morrison currently is the new head of the MSU Political Science and Public Administration Department.
Professor Morrison has received numerous academic distinctions and honors, including the IHL Educator of the year award, University of Missouri Faculty Alumni Award, a Diversity Enhancement Award, a Martin Luther King Community Award from Columbia, Missouri, and a Barbara Jordan Leadership Award from the Big Eight Conference, and was a Foreign Affairs Scholar for the U.S. State Department.
Professor Morrison maintains a national reputation in research. Among his published books are: Aaron Henry of Mississippi: Inside Agitator,(University of Arkansas Press), Black Political Mobilization, Leadership, Power, and Mass Behavior (SUNY Press), and African Americans and Political Participation, (CLIO Press). He has written numerous scholarly articles, and published in such journals as Comparative Politics, Journal of Modern African Studies, Political Science Quarterly, and National Political Science Review, inter alia.
